Steve Smith

A highly experienced animation director and producer, and the founder of Beakus. His work has won a British Animation Award for Fun Facts, and a BAFTA for CBBC Newsround, whilst his clients include the BBC, Red Bee Media, Google, McCann Erickson, EMI, Domino Records, Channel 4, and Nickelodeon.

The title sequence to Sue Perkins' comedy series Heading Out, broadcast on BBC2. Director Steve Smith designed a caricature of Sue's vet character Sara, penned in by lots of energetic pets. The concept and music is by Sue herself.

The first of two infographic films to explain the role of business support company Frontline to it's customers. Using a minimal palette and slick 3D and 2D animation, the video attempts to make simple quite complex concepts.

We were asked by charity Global Action Plan to create a film to promote the launch of a new initiative encouraging water conservation. A high-tec but earthy 3D CGI sequence for a Google conference in China. Based on the idea of 'making dreams possible' we worked to an extremely tight schedule and created a wooden world upon which we see stenciled Chinese characters and illustrations. The video was seen by over 100,000 people on it's first day, online at youku.com, with a 99% approval rate!
