Steve Smith

Steve Smith is a highly experienced animation director and producer, and the founder of Beakus. His work has won Annecy Crystals and a British Animation Award for Fun Facts, and a BAFTA for Newsround – Semara’s Story, whilst his clients range from the BBC to Red Bee Media, Google, McCann Erickson, Brothers and Sisters, EMI, Domino Records, Channel 4, and Nickelodeon.

An animator and filmmaker at heart Steve has made several shorts including Eating For Two (Channel 4) and Leap of Faith (MTV). In fact Leap of Faith was singled out by BAFTA as the perfect 1-minute film! His work foregrounds characterisation, humour, variety and sophistication. But perhaps his greatest skill, having produced such a diverse range of work, is to recognise the power of animation to make any subject engaging and accessible.

A Little Grey
by Steve Smith
for Simon Hewitt

A short CGI film written by Stuart Royall and Simon Hewitt, and directed by Steve Smith.

Is there any cure for being ‘a little grey’? One man’s search takes him through bars, churches, doctor’s surgeries, tattoo parlours and beyond, but will he find what he’s looking for? A colourful story about losing your spark and finding redemption.

Animated by Mighty, and starring Tony Gardner (Fresh Meat) and Richard Attlee (The Archers), this quiet epic will be screening at festivals worldwide through late 2016 and 2017.
